Married to Claire (1/30/85), Marino and his wife have four children, Daniel Charles (9/4/86), Michael Joseph (5/18/88), Joseph Donald (7/26/89) and Alexandra Claire (5/13/92) and reside in Weston . . . Originally signed a one-year contract extension through 1999 on June 13, 1997...In his 16-year career, Marino has played in 231 games (229 starts) and he is 4,763-7,989 (59.6×for 58,913 yards, 408 touchdowns, and 235 interceptions for an 87.3 passing efficiency rating, which ranks fourth among the all-time passing leaders . . . Marino holds 38 Dolphins regular season team records (50 overall, including playoffs) and is tied for six others (eight, including playoffs) . . . He holds 25 NFL regular season records and is tied for five others . . . Did not undergo any surgical procedures following the 1998 season . . . It marked the tenth time in his career that his off-season was surgery-free.

Started all 16 games in 1998 and finished 310-537 (57.7×for 3,497 yards, 23 touchdowns, 15 interceptions and 23 sacks for a 80.0 rating . . . Ranked second in the AFC and fourth in the NFL in attempts, second in the AFC and fifth in the NFL in completions, third in the AFC and seventh in the NFL in passing yardage, third in the AFC and tied for seventh in the NFL in touchdown passes, and ninth in the AFC in passer rating . . . Ranked seventh in the AFC in passing efficiency, ranked first in the AFC and in the NFL in attempts and completions, and ranked second in the AFC and third in the NFL in passing yardage . . . Was one of 11 quarterbacks to have started every game in 1997 . . . Played every offensive snap the first eight games of the season before suffering a left ankle sprain on Nov. 2, 1997 at Buffalo, and until his injury that game, he had been one of only five quarterbacks in the NFL to have taken every snap until that point
